Summer 2022 Interest Camp May 14th

By | Drum & Bugle Corps | 2 Comments

It’s been a while, hasn’t it? COVID took away multiple winter and summer seasons, but it’s time we get back outside and we need you!

To gauge interest among members new and old, we’ll be holding an interest camp on Saturday, May 14th from 10AM to 2PM.

Westwood Intermediate and Middle School
711 91st Ave NE
Blaine, MN 55434

*Lunch is not provided, so eat before-hand or bring a snack.

We want to know who is interested in being part of of the 2022 summer corps, so we can put together an appropriate program for our members. We need you to make it happen.

Let’s get the band back together

Yes it’s short notice, but we can do this! We’re committed to putting together a drum & bugle corps that is accessible to a wide range of people. All-age, part-time drum & bugle corps that is fun but doesn’t require you to give up all of your free time.

Achievable Schedule

The schedule is easy: we’ll get together on Friday night and Saturdays every other weekend. No matter what, you’ll always have a day leftover on your weekends to enjoy the Minnesota summers as you wish.

Four Performances, Four Parades

The season will center around 4 field performances. Three local DCI shows with the season culminating at SoundSport finals in Indianapolis on August 13. Members will receive tickets to DCI Semis and Finals as part of their dues.

Parades are also an important part of our season. They’re fun and it’s a great way to show Minnesotans of all walks of life who we are… without anyone having to buy a ticket. We’ll do 3 local parades before DCI Finals and the State Fair on Labor Day with those who can attend.

We’ll also have an open parade policy where any alumni can join us on a given parade day. But to do that, we need you to come to the interest camp so you can get the music, learn the work, and get fitted for a uniform.

All New Staff

We’ve put together an instructional team with an emphasis on positive member experience. Staff includes:

  • Chris Judd – Executive Director
  • Tyler Shipe – Visual
  • Chris O’Connell – Brass
  • Joe Jaeger – Battery
  • Alex St. Clair – Front Ensemble
  • Rebekah Salas – Color Guard
  • Justin Foell – Director/Coordinator

Join Us!

Take the next step and sign up.

We’ll see you on Saturday, May 14th at Westwood Intermediate and Middle School from 10AM to 2PM.

Friends & Family Preview Sunday, June 11th

By | Drum & Bugle Corps | No Comments

Minnesota Brass invites you to preview our 2017 program Pins & Needles this Sunday, June 11th at Brooklyn Center High School.

Friends and family of Minnesota Brass and its members, staff and volunteers are all welcome. Arrive at 1PM for a spaghetti lunch served by our fabulous volunteer crew. A $5 donation helps pay for our meals and facility costs – kids under 10 eat free!

At 2PM we’ll venture outside to coordinate our show a little before giving a preview of the first iteration of our 2017 field show. This is a great opportunity to see what we do all these weekends that your friends or relatives are with us.

Winter Finale & Spring Preview

By | Drum & Bugle Corps, Indoor Drumline, MBI Winterguard | No Comments

Join us this Sunday, April 2nd for our winter finale featuring MBI Indoor Percussion and MBI Winter Guard.

Our winter drumline and winter guard are both on incredible trajectories, poised to make an impact at WGI Finals. If you haven’t seen them yet, you need to. If you haven’t seen them recently, you’ll be taken aback. Every performance uncovers something new.

We’ll also introduce the 2017 summer hornline & drumline with our spring preview of the music from our program: Pins & Needles. You’ll hear Hall of the Mountain King, Trent Reznor’s Hurt, Medea, and Death Hunt from On Dangerous Ground all cleverly mixed with that Minnesota Brass sound.

For a $5 donation, you can see the best winter guard and winter drumline in the state of Minnesota, and get a preview of our 2017 summer program music. Your donation helps pay for our facility fees and keeps Minnesota Brass going strong through it’s 71st season and for future generations. Kids under 10 are free.

Location: Brooklyn Center High School (main gym)
Date: Sunday, April 2
Time: 2pm
Cost: $5 (kids under 10 free)

2017 Show Announcement

By | Drum & Bugle Corps | No Comments

2017 marks the 71st anniversary of Minnesota Brass and we’re thrilled to announce our summer program titled, “Pins & Needles“.

Crafted of rags, textiles and other assorted materials, voodoo dolls are pierced with pins with the distinct intention of inflicting physical harm upon targeted subjects. A voodoo doll’s existence is one of pain and servitude, the pawn of another’s will, a surrogate to another’s whim…

Or perhaps not?

We are excited to present a patchwork of sounds and visions that will tantalize the soul and capture the black magic mystery of “Pins & Needles”. Brass arrangements from famed Blue Devils arranger John Meehan. Selections include “In The Hall Of The Mountain King” and “The March Of The Trolls” by Grieg, “Medea’s Dance Of Vengeance” by Samuel Barber, “Coraline” [ending credits] by Bruno Courlais and “Hurt” by Trent Reznor.
