Minnesota Brass brings its innovative “Supernova” production to the Twin Cities and St. Peter this weekend. The Minnesota shows are the corps’ last two competitions before it heads to the DCA championships in Rochester, N.Y., over Labor Day weekend.
First up is Minnesota Brass’ home show, Sounds of Minnesota, which takes place 7 p.m. Friday at St. Thomas Academy in Mendota Heights. Fellow competitors include the Govenaires of St. Peter and the Kilties of Racine, Wis., with exhibitions by Chops Inc., Brio Brass and Minne Brass. As always, Minnesota Brass’ rehearsal — 1-5 p.m. Friday at St. Thomas Academy (949 Mendota Heights Rd., Mendota Heights) — will be open to the public.
On Saturday, Minnesota Brass heads to St. Peter for the Govies’ home show, Drum Corps Expo. The same corps will be competing, with Chops Inc. and other groups in exhibition, starting at 7 p.m. at St. Peter High School. Minnesota Brass will spend the day rehearsing about a half hour away at Jordan High School (600 Sunset Dr., Jordan), with a morning block from 9-11:45 and an afternoon block from 12:45-3:30.
