Pageantry in the Plaza

By | Drum & Bugle Corps | No Comments

Minnesota Brass and River City Rhythm, in conjunction with Green Minneapolis, present Pageantry in the Plaza on Saturday, July 22nd at 4pm at Peavey Plaza. The free event also features a combined performance with Minnesota Orchestra trumpeter Chuck Lazarus.

Peavey Plaza, located adjacent to Orchestra Hall, opened in 1975 and is now in the National Register of Historic Places. As a public place along Nicollet Avenue, the plaza has become Downtown Minneapolis’ living room.

To reach a new audience and help fill a schedule gap between nearby drum corps shows, we contacted Green Minneapolis to host a free concert at Peavey Plaza. Bo Hoover of River City Rhythm recognized the opportunity to coordinate with the Minnesota Orchestra who is playing Stravinsky’s Firebird that night. He reached out to Chuck Lazarus from the trumpet section to put together a shared performance opportunity that you won’t want to miss!

The performance will feature:

  • Minnesota Brass and their 2023 production: Speakeasy
  • River City Rhythm and their 2023 production: Falling
  • Chuck Lazarus in a combined performance with RCR & MBI

Hopefully we’ll see you in the plaza – Saturday, July 22nd at 4pm!

Minnesota Brass presents: Speakeasy

By | Drum & Bugle Corps | One Comment

In a dark alley somewhere, there’s an unadvertised place. A secret door that music is emanating from. When the door opens, the sound comes pouring out. Inside you’ll find Minnesota Brass’s 2023 production: Speakeasy

Unlike a speakeasy from the 1920s, this one is completely legal, just a little secret. The hipster bar meets nightclub vibe is absent of flapper dresses, but full of fun & flair. Selections include:

  • Crazy In Love by Beyonce
  • Piano Man by Billy Joel
  • Closing Time by Semisonic

Come see Minnesota Brass at these events this summer:

  • Fridley Parade – June 15th
  • Alexandria Parade & Stand-Still – June 25th
  • Hinkley Parade & Stand-Still – July 8th
  • Mankato Thunder of Drums – July 11th
  • Eau Claire Drums Along the Chippewa – July 12th
  • Minneapolis Peavey Plaza Pageantry in the Plaza Stand-Still – July 22nd
  • Apple Valley March On! – August 2nd
  • St. Peter Drum Corps Expo – August 5th
  • Indianapolis DCI SoundSport Finals – August 12th

2023 Winter Recap – Thank You Donors!

By | Indoor Drumline, MBI Winterguard, Winds | One Comment

MBI Winter Guard

The season kicked off with a bang at the Premiere show when MBI performers came onto the floor veiled in yellow raincoats. They took them off to reveal a full Pennywise costume from IT. The theme was hugely popular, and the guard produced a “Who is IT?” post to showcase performers who you wouldn’t otherwise recognize in their costumes & makeup. MBI Winter Guard finished 19th in Independent Open at Dayton, Ohio.

MBI Indoor Percussion

Celebrating its 15th year in 2023, MBI Indoor Percussion competed both locally and nationally. The season culminated with MBI being a WGI Semi-Finalist in Dayton, OH and placing 17th in Percussion Independent World (PIW) competition – MBIā€™s highest placement in a decade. The 2023 production was titled ā€œFade to Blackā€ and featured the ensemble fading in and out of both visual and musical textures ending as the members literally fading away and disappearing into the all-black set pieces. ā€œHang my head, drown my fear, til they all just disappear.ā€ This lyrics were heard in the last moments of the show as MBI played ā€œBlack Hole Sunā€ by Soundgarden.
