Some 200 spaghetti dinners and a day in the sunshine kicked off the 2015 season as Minnesota Brass hosted its annual Friends and Family day at Brooklyn Center High School on a sunny and hot July 14 Sunday afternoon.
As has become custom, the Friends and Family event gathers corps members, alums, support staffers, the administrative team and other friends—all of whom collectively form the MBI “family”—for the first full public run through of the season’s show, this year titled “Mad Circus.” It’s the culmination of a weekend’s camp and prepares everyone for the beginning of the year.
“Mad Circus” tells the tale of romance and tragedy under the Big Top, and features musical selections by Emerson, Lake and Palmer; Danny Elfman; Rufus Wainright; Beats Antique, and Queen.
Minnesota Brass debuts this year with a series of performances at the Vikingland Band Festival in Alexandria, Minn., June 27 and 28 before opening its competition season on July 29 at Mankato’s Thunder of Drums contest at Minnesota State University, Mankato’s Blakeslee Field.
